Waits by the stove for me to get home from work, makes me feel more 'welcome' than the wife,(that spends over 1/2 the money!!) Dumb animals, 'they call them', But the cat knows WHO butters her bread!! Louie , My 6 lbs of fury, mixed breed dog, and I eat hotdogs that I cook on the wood burner, and Molly, 12 pounds of peke- a palm, only shows her face it the micro-wave 'dings' She doesn't appriciate the Redneck way of life!! If it wasn't for wood, we would freeze to death!! Because I will NOT pay the amount of money the 'powers' have dictated that it will take for your comfort. Have you ever had a 'baked potato' that was cooked on a woodburner?? There are many benifits to 'not' using the fuel that comes from a pipe, or wire.. Yes, It involves WORK, but you have to 'work' to pay a big gas bill, so , it becomes a matter of 'if you would rather cut and carry wood, or pay for the heat to be delivered.. I'm TOO CHEAP to pay EXTORTION prices for something that my worn out GMC will haul for gas money!! When it was 2 degrees, I had a cat that was CLOSE, and a pile of wood that made the cat a 'loyal subject', cause she couldn't carry the wood, and I could!! jerry |

I've got a woodburning fireplace in my living room, but the only thing that prevents me from using it on a regular basis is the cost of the wood! Wood isnt cheap.

I don't see anything negative to discuss here!! Unless you are too busy or tired to take advantage of 'free heat' My neighbor pays $400. per month for gas for a 4 room house, and i cut up peoples dead trees and spend about 15 hours per month to get my heat, I don't make $400. for 15 hours work, and the physical workout that I get would cost me $40. per month if I joined a gym.. everything in life is a 'trade off'. If you would rather pay the owners of the pipe $400. per month, and have $400. per month to spare for heat, Then crank that thermostat up!! and set back, and pay the gym for a few hours on the lifting bench, because the wife says you are getting too soft. Trees, 'The renewable resource' . If you feel guilty about it, Plant 2 for each one that you cut down.!!. I cut 108 in 1 summer, but bought 200 from the soil conservation guys the next spring. the PU truck cost/maintenance/insurance/registration is not exactly cheap. our highest gas bill was $190, and that is only for the few coldest months. 15 hours overtime / month at work more than pays for the gas bill. not really worth it for me. besides, i kinda have a fear of leaving fires burning unattended while i sleep, because an old roommate nearly burned our rented house down one time. you do make a valid point, however.

Wood heat:
1979 Jeep Pickup, $450, runs like $#!+, but never leaves the property so no reg/insure, drive down in back and find a fallen oak, cut, split, burn

We have a fireplace in our house but it's not hooked up. Hooking it up would cost more in house insurance than what we currently pay for heat.

they pulled the grids from my electrostatic air cleaner and put in this big-ass filter that only needs replaced once a year @ $40. now i don't have to listen to that thing snapping and popping all the time, and i don't have to change filters very often. do they make a K&N furnace filter for more powAr?

The ultimate setup for pet owners is a wide, high effeciency filter, with a short plenum with a UV light in it, then the electronic filter. All the stinky germs and crap will get charged by the UV, then attracted to the electronic filter and trapped. Doug
