Those new turbo Cooper S's are sweet! Love 'em! However, I'm getting a car that's rwd and in a faster stock class than my WRX...but isn't a Super Stock car!

I am going to B Stock Bill! Not a 350Z...but an RX-8! I'm getting one in Galaxy Grey with the performance package (HID headlights, fog lamps and Dynamic Stability Control):

Even though this is the Not Exactly SVX section, I figured most wouldn't care to see updates of my progress in a B-stock RX-8. I do like keeping a blog as it gives me a way to keep my SVX friends updated on what I'm up to.

Great car, Chike. Good luck with it!! But I think the MazdaSpeed 3 might outdo it at autocross!!

Not at an autocross - the RX8 is the car-to-have in B-stock where it runs against the 350Z, MR2 Turbo, and E36 M3. The MS3 is in DS where it competes against the WRX, 330i, SRT-4, Audi TT but the Integra Type R is still remains the car-to-have after 10 yrs.

I've just decided for once to get a car I not only would like for the street, but which is the 'it' car for an autocross class. The best of both worlds in a way...

Okay, so I get the "guess what Chike is buying" award? (okay, so I didn't keep a close eye on previous posts, thus the 350Z guess....thanks, Tom). Have you done a "baby seat" check on the back seat?

No prize...but if you ever show up for another autocross event, I'll let you ride shotgun on one of my runs. It'll be an eye opening experience--trust me!

Baby seat check is complete. My car will be here in 2 weeks.

Only if you ride shotgun in mine first....2008 is going to be interesting I'm working on splitting my time between 5spd-equipped ESP and FP SVXi
Just have to make sure that I don't get roped into any more big NASA mission proposals for a couple of months

He needs a lot of parking space to open two doors together.

Chike, nice car. My friend rode with one of these at one autox event...this thing can finish certain courses with its first gear of the whole course.

Well te current ESP PAX and BS PAX are very close to each other. So we'll almost have to run identical times.

That wouldn't be a very fast course. With 245/35/18 Kumho V710's, 1st runs out around 37mph IIRC.

For those that have an interest - here's the Top Gear review of an RX-8 from a few seasons back:

Top Gear Review of the RX-8

The model I'm getting has a fully defeatable Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system, which will make the car safer in the wet.

So didn't someone who started this post get rid of his SVX because the rear seat wasn't big enough. Excuses, excuses. Personally I would've simply bought this. At least you wouldn't be driving around with a vacuum engine in a car with a rear seat smaller than an SVX. Oh and it would've been a cool 10k cheaper. Then again what do I know. I buy cars because I like them not because they're the "car of the month" from a bunch of whinners who insist that autoxing isn't the car its the drive but yet they seem to need to be in the "car of the month" in order to walk away with a $2 trophy!

Chike,
Hey, don't leave "the family" We'll still want to hear how you're doing, no matter what you're driving. You get good enough, and we might even let you drive some real cars at the Subie Challenge

Things change Ben - I was actually considering a 2 seat car, so practicality wasn't a 'must' for this car purchase.

Those 330CI BMW's are great cars, but not my cup-o'-tea. I want something new, with a warranty that I personally want to own. If you think back, two years ago I test drove a WRX, a LGT and a RX-8...and bought the WRX. The RX-8 isn't a flavor of the month car for me - it's something I've wanted to own at some point in my life, and the opportunity is right for me at this time.

Thanks Bill. I'll consider starting a 2008 Autocross Blog thread then. I will be going to Topeka for Nationals as I'll have a co-driver to split costs.
