Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I just got back from the Reading meet last night! 6,687 total miles from the time I left the house, to the time I pulled back into the driveway!
It was an awesome time! It was great to finally meet everyone that I've been talking to on the forum.
Hoping to see you all again soon!

Now THAT is an epic Reading road trip. Everyone who says a 20 year old car can't be reliable can shove it.

Took off my studded snows. They're illegal after 30 April. Still only +1 - +3 here in the evenings/night. Late spring

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Tourque converter isn't locking up right and grinding in the morning. Have to start it in power mode for a couple miles untill its working normally so the rebuild 4.44 trans thats been collecting dust in the garage is getting a new home real soon.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Because I recently replaced the starter, I decided to replace the positive and negative cable too. The car starts up almost immediately!
I also rewired my starter relay bypass. My next project is to add a start button as a back up in the engine compartment, in case the bypass fails (haven't had a problem with it for years now) Knock on wood

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

My new struts are in from subaru.

There has been debate on some of the numbers on struts and I would like to add mine to the debate.

Looking at the dates on the struts themselves, assuming they are YY/MM/DD, they are a few days before the stickers on the bag.
Which would make sense seeing they are made before they bagged and tagged.

Looks like they made a new run of rear struts in 2011.
Looks like they made a new run of fronts struts in 2012.

Parts purchased from Liberty Subaru in Emerson NJ.
Fronts were in stock, off their shelves.
Rears came to them via UPS from Subaru of America Indianapolis.

There were 2 SVX in the lot when I was there, a white and a red.

Parts are to be installed on Monday-Tuesday.

(Yes this is a copy paste from my Technical Q&A thread on part numbers, not as many people view that as this thread.)

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

After looking at my wheels in various lighting and in the Reading 14 photos, I decided to redo the BBS wheels differently. For some odd reason the wheels actually look smaller on the car the way they are finished

I am going to disassemble the center caps and have the entire wheel and centers finished in a bright light silver, with a very fine metallic, probably Mercedes-Benz Iridium Silver 775 or the Dodge SRT Tech silver

Since I cannot replicate the originals exactly, I will just keep the classic retro styling, but with an fresh, updated look. The satin polished rims just did not work.

I should have matched the centers to the wheels, not the other way around. Since Transwheel knows I am not happy, they are doing them over no charge.

Similar to this look.

Thoughts?

You know John, you are a little bit crazy.

I thought the wheels looked great but I know you have good instincts so maybe they will look even better in the new color.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Today I installed the items that I purchased at the Reading meet. (Thanks sunvalleyray) I took the 97 grill off and put on a super clean stock grill, then I changed out both side mirrors with the replacement silver ones I picked up. The paint on the original mirrors was a little tired and starting to look scratched and cracked. The "new" mirrors have a lot more shine, although there are more chips and marks that I need to touch up.

The 97 grill got a lot of compliments at Reading but I'm kind of tired of it. I'll put it back on eventually but I think I prefer the stock one over all.

I also washed a weeks worth of pollen and tree crap off.

Took it out of storage from the winter today! Gave her a bath and checked the fluids.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Finally got the one owner SVX registered and checked it over more thoroughly after sitting in storage for nearly a year and a half. I had taken it for a few drives and the transmission had shifted fine and all 4 gears were there. (bought under the assumption the trans was completely fried). Well, I had it idling for about an hour and a half to charge the battery up and upon taking it for a drive, got the exact symptoms the previous owner ran into with it just freerevving. No forward or reverse gears. Shut the car off and after sitting for a couple minutes, started it up and had movement but was still wanting to slip upon limping it back to work.
Turns out the trans filter was original and completely clogged cutting off all fluid flow/pressure. New filter and bypassing the stock "cooler" and it now shifts good again. This is proof that the filter can get clogged without completely killing the transmission and that it is more than "just a screen and serves no real purpose" as noted by a "transmission expert" on this forum. So, change the filter regularly and clean the magnet. If anything, it's an extra $25 every couple years for extra peace of mind. As for the fluid I put in, just standard Dex/Merc off the shelf from Walmart. It's the cheapest stuff around that is compatible and I've been using it for years. If you're changing it out every couple years, it's not going to matter if you're using a dyno based ATF or a full synthetic.

*I forgot to get a picture of the inside of the pan before I cleaned it. I'll get a pic of the filter Monday when I go to work next to show the "carnage"

He has it running through a aftermarket ATF cooler bypassing the somewhat restrictive one in the radiator.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

My 92 came with one of them PWR aftermarket radiators installed.

This thing:

It also came with this new in the box:

Does the PWR radiator not have the issue that the stock on has? Do I not need to install this thing if I have the PWR?

Just thought I ask seeing as we are talking about radiators and they are going to be ripping my car apart tomorrow to install new pulleys and steering pump.
I guess what I am asking is should I bother to have this thing put in my svx, or just leave it in my parts bin till someone is looking for one?
