O/T Clutch questions
Now that the XT6 is inspected and taken care off aside from the valve gasket leaks its time to focus on my Brat. I had an internal problem whicn forced my disto out killing the crank drive (replace it and did it again) so I picked up a newer engine from someone. Its for an auto so basically I just need to take out the torque converter and put in the stuff from my engine. My question is do I need a whole clutch kit of just the plate? Any suggestions on brands. I've never taken an engine out nor have I replaced a clutch on an EA81 but I plan on keeping the thing for a while and the old clutch was either starting to slip or getting oil from the rear seal on it granted with 175k I'd go with the slip. The only think I'm planning to do with the newer eng is replace the rear seal since everything else could be done in the car. Thoughts on that?

Bob,
You'll need to get a clutch kit (Clutch disk, Pressure Plate,& throw-out bearing.) You'll have to remove the torque converter, and flex plate, and install your old flywheel (have it resurfaced if it looks scorced), and make sure you have a pilot bearing in the end of the crank(might be in the center of the flywheel) this is the bearing the frontmost part of the tranny main shaft slides into, the auto engine may, or may not have it. If you have anymore questions, just let me know. ![]()
