Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

This weekend, I had tires mounted and balanced and wheel alignment on my 1992. Took it out for a nice test drive on some curvy roads - super satisfying!

This morning, I took out my 1991 SVX for some errands. Noted a coolant smell inside when the heat is on. Looks like I will be revisiting the heater core behind the dash . Oh well, at least its pretty!

Wanting better news, I turned my attention back to the 1992: I noticed a noise from the left front brake caliper. Fearing a stuck caliper, I dug in closer. A poor fitting pad slide was contacting the rotor causing a metallic noise. I adjusted (bent) the slide and resolved the noise. Lubed the caliper once again and resolved.

The tire shop showed me one rear lug nut was stripping on the wheel stud. I replaced the lug nut with a used one I had on my shelf, and cleaned up the stud using my tap and die set.

A strange problem this car had was a slightly loose steering column. I went under the dash and noticed the pinch bolt had worked its way loose over the years. I tightened and resolved this. Adjusted the brake pedal clevis & light switch while I was there.

This was a good weekend for projects!

Overhauling brake calipers isn't that difficult, and you should still be able to get a set of rubber boots and grease. I recommend doing it while you can. I believe you can still buy pistons.

I am currently having problems with my internet modem and am using my neighbor's internet.

Yesterday I helped a friend replace the shock absorbers on his Legacy. Having done 100,000km in 10 years, it was quite rusty and in poor condition.

The front upper mounts have not yet arrived due to backorder, so I replaced the rear shocks, front and rear stabilizers, and lower arms. I will do the rest at a later date.

Due to Subaru's repeated price revisions, the price of the parts has risen considerably. The total price exceeded JPY 400,000 (USD2,700).

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

This week, I swapped out a torn seat cushion with a spare seat bottom I had on the shelf. I'm taking a break from wrenching on the 1992 SVX and moving on to another project in my garage.

The 911 is going to be my main focus, but the 1992 SVX will be getting an air conditioning recharge soon. I'll be driving the 1992 as a secondary car over the next few months.

Photos attached of the oxygen sensor connector and oil thermostat I worked on this week. First progress on that car in over six months!

Today I'm making a panel to replace the rusted side sill (part of the floor) on an R1.

I'm going to have lunch and then I'm going to do some welding.

Peter, I think the dryer may fit. Going to try again. However, I will need to swap the return line to the later style which has the low side port on it.

When you're done before & after pics would be nice.

I promise photos once this hose arrives and I attempt installation. Hopefully this is a fun little project for me over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I reinstalled everything yesterday including the rear bumper and now my wife's car is drivable. It took 2 months.

The surface of the clear coat is still uneven, but this can be sanded down and smoothed out after at least a week, once the paint has hardened sufficiently.

Anyway, she will be able to use her car from today.

Today is sunny day. I'm planning to wash all 6 my cars today. After driving the SVX, I always wash it and dry it thoroughly before storing it in the garage.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Yesterday I drove my wife's R1 for the first time in two months. I can feel the rigidity of the car. The vibrations of the road are transmitted to the body more easily than before, and the roll in corners has decreased. I can feel the grip of the rear tires.

Overall I think it looks good.

Today my wife is going to tea ceremony practice on the R1.

Today, I replaced the hose from the condensor to compressor with the 94+ type - earlier cars did not have the r134 inlet on this hose. I also swapped out the AC drier unit with a new aftermarket unit without the port on it.

I plan to have the system charged on Monday. Hopefully, the compressor will kick on.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Today I bought a SUBARU small van for a friend. This car is rear-engine, rear-wheel drive, and part-time AWD. I will be doing some maintenance to get car inspection.

Yes. It meets the KEI standard. In Japan, small cars with an engine displacement of 660cc or less are taxed at a low rate, at JPY 6,000 even if they are over 13 years old.

She is a carpenter and needs this type of car. She had a similar car, a Mitsubishi, until the day before yesterday, but it was on the verge of being worn out. The used car dealer took the Mitsubishi in exchange for the Sambar.
