I originally purchased it from a slimy dealer down in IL, just across the line from St. Louis. I was told it was in excellent condition, and after a 2 hour drive of getting there and the personal 'awe factor' of being a '97, I overlooked/missed quite a few things. I thought I was being smart by taking it to a garage a little down the way for an inspection. Came back from lunch and the SVX was in the same spot. Mechanic told me he'd checked it out and everything looked good. He didn't charge me for the inspection either (found out later that this was to avoid a papertrail because he was in league with the dealer). So, there was a little binding in tight turns, but my '92 had had its AWD disabled for so long, I stupidly took the dealer at his word when he said it was just tight. There was a discrepancy in CARFAX, but it was of the odo being rolled forward (?). I took her home, and she drove just fine for me, save for some bearing noise and the binding tranny with some slippage. Times got a little better, got a promotion and a raise and I decided I could finally start getting her worked on. Made the mistake of putting her in the hands of a co-worker who claimed to be CSE certified. I found a '95 tranny in good condition with low miles and had it drop-shipped to his farm. A grand in labour and 4 months later, I get her back and the exhaust is resonating in the cab (fixed), she's leaking some kind of fluid (doesn't appear to be any longer), and the steering's sloppy. I won't go into the resulting mess from there, but it was not pretty. She's pretty much sat since then. I haven't had the motivation to have her checked out, and am afraid to drive her, lest I do more damage. I do move her every month or so, just to keep the condo association off my back (it's obviously NOT abandoned OR derelict! Get off my case!). She fires right up on the 2nd crank if jumped, I don't think it's an electrical issue, I just think the battery's flat. The brakes scrape a little, but the moron who put them on said that he put them back together a little tight. She runs and stays running, and I've driven her up to a mile since the 'repair' debacle. The economy's not been great, but I've managed thus far, and kept saying 'some day'. Two weeks ago, my cat racked up $6000 in vet bills... 'Some day' just became a LOT further off. So, it's time for us to part ways. The car is being sold as/is. I make no claims to her viability, but I don't think it's really all that bad. However, I'm not a mechanic and I don't have the time, energy or funds to pursue her betterment. The security module is non-functional as well, but she does come with two sets (the ignition and door locks were split before I purchased her) of keys and two keyfobs. There's some rust in the faring holes and in the back upper right corner. Both of which are very visible in the photos. She also comes with a spare set of rims that're in fairly better shape than the ones currently on, and the tires are in better condition as well. If you have any questions or want any other photos, let me know. Thanks! (Sorry about the 'shaky-cam', an iPhone's not the most prime of cinematographic devices, and I was fighting off a cloud of mosquitoes.) Re: Save this '97! $3000 OBO
So, from what you can tell, it needs a new battery, the steering checked and a leak tracked down? Did you take care of the bearings? I wish I could help you out, but I don't need (edit: I'm not allowed to have!) a third car right now. My wife would kill me if I did. Either way, good luck!

This is why I'm selling her at a significant loss. I just don't have the time, energy or resources to spare right now and I want her to go to a good home.

Re: Save this '97! $3000 OBO
Not to crush your hopes, but I just bought a 92 that I was able to drive home for $900. Mine is rust free, but the paint is shot. Yours looks clean, but I would be hard pressed to see that kind of money for a car I can't jump in and drive home. Get her running and you'll get that money out of it. GLWS.

like you said the economy sucks right now...its very difficult to find a buyer for these cars AND get a fair price for them at the moment.
