Transmission - replaced fluid, got a weird sound
I'm really sorry to post another transmission thread. I've spent the last 30 minutes or so searching, and I give up and I'm just gonna ask.
I drained the fluid on my transmission. Got about 5 quarts out. I expected only three, but got around five. It was _really_ watery and had no viscosity at all. So I put in three and a half quarts of mobil synthetic ATF and a quart of trans-x (starting to slip shifting into 3rd, this has been really helpful in my van, decided to go for it). It's hard to read the dipstick. I know that sounds stupid, but it's hard to tell what level the fluid is actually at. But it appears to be filled properly. So, today I drove the car and when I shift into drive it makes this weird "oomph" sound. I can't describe it any other way. At first I thought it was the parking brake being engaged and just the car straining against the brake, but that wasn't it. It happens regardless, and every single time I put it in drive. Not in reverse, not in neutral, just in drive. Any ideas? Too much fluid? Too little fluid? Wrong fluid? I don't want to toast my car because I did something stupid... Joel |
