WOW I love the sound of the car excelerating. The ECU crush was a tight sqeeze for a 220 pounder but I really feel the difference,

Basically there are many posts regarding this mod. It is a noise suppressor type of capasitor (for lack of a better term) that slows the computer signal when you floor the throttle so as not to put a lot of strain on the tranny in (92 and 93's), factory removed this in following years. I noticed a difference but I also removed the intake resonator at the same time so the combo made a difference can't say which was which, but am sure the ecu crush has mad a difference. Its been ststed before most improvement for no bucks.
Go into messsage arcive and do a ecu search and you will spend lots of time reading many posts regarding this mod.

That component has to do with the knock sensors in the engine. Those knock sensors seem to be overly sensitive on '92s and '93s and cause hesitation when leaving stoplights and such.

'94s and later apparently don't need to have this done.

As I found out eventually, this turned into a TSB. A Subaru dealer actually modified my ECU in the same way.

But I think it's a resistor that you 'crush,' not a capacitor...

Hey Pockets was that you that made a trip out west last year? I had my little red in storage for a while so haven't been readin or postin much. Anyway how was the trip. If it wasn't you oops disregarde.

A TSB Is a Technical Service Bulletin. They're issued by Subaru to the dealer service departments to help with common issues. This solution was given to the techs as a TSB to solve severe hesitation.

Looking at the service record of my car, I can see why. The dealer techs looked into the fuel systems, the throttle body - even the IRIS valve in the intake manifold - before the TSB was issued to solve the problem.

No, I did not take a trip out West this year or last. I would like to, though.

No it is not a capacitor, capacitors hold a charge and are filled with fish oil, resistors deaden the signal.

uh dumb question why not cut the resistor out and just run a patch wire between the ends?

My plan, when I have spare time, is to leave the resistor in place but run/solder a wire below it acting like a bypass with no resistance. That way everything can be undone if need be.

Earthworm, you read my mind. I have a butane soldering iron that could prove to be very valuable in this situation. Perhaps i'll try this and give you guys a shout back if it works out.

Wasn't my idea but I remember a previous thread on the subject but no one really said if it worked or not. I'm curious enough to try.

There is no reason I can think of why that wouldn't work. Path of least resistance is what everything without a brain will take.
