Trunnion to Front Drive Shaft Alignment?
Hi,
I had to replace the rubber boots on the ball joints of both front drive shafts. Unfortunately I screwed up one very importand thing: I did not put an allignment mark on the Trunnion. The Drive Shaft does carry eight alignment marks on its end, one of them is marked with a 0. This one is aligned to a space in between the six balls (oriented in a hexagonal pattern to each other) located in the Ball Joint Housing (wheel side). The trunnion is carrying the three rings of the Tripod Joint (transmission side). So the big question I do have: Does anybody know how the Trunnion needs to be alligned to the drive shaft ("0" alignment mark) / ball joint? (unfortunately the manual does not show it). If I do not mount the trunnion in correct position I guess I will ruin the drive shaft, so it´s urgent to solve this... Thanks in advance! Marcus Last edited by Marcus; 10-18-2009 at 04:50 AM. |

Re: Trunnion to Front Drive Shaft Alignment?
hi yes the manual does tell you to make it when taking it a part ,i have done this many times and have never marked the inner joint ,the 2 joints work differently the inner one spins and slides in and out ,while the cvj has to spin and turn ,the only time i have seen a problem was having a trunnion ring fall off when reinstalling it then it was a bad vibration , you would think
if it was that inportant they would index the spline charlie |
