should I "seafoam" my SVX (last resort) VID. inside.
Ive had a tick in my engine bay for about a 2-3 years now (i havent drivin it much the last couple years). sounds like a sticky lifter, but i think it may be the flexplate.
I started it up today after it sat for a couple months and it was ticking extra loud. the oil was also a little low for some reason. This is what im talking about when i say "seafoam" my svx. from what ive read it works but its scary. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ef3HNvxblxQ (subaru) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coZVpNdJfkw REPLIES: |

I've been thinking about doing it too. For those of you who have done it, does it a make big difference? I have 140K on my engine.

Re: should I "seafoam" my SVX (last resort) VID. inside.
Hi,
not sure if I fully understand your problem. However, if you have a "knocking noise" (from the valves) when you fire up your engine, this might be normal. This engine has a self-adjusting valve clearance system, that is opperated by oil pressure. If your oil level is low, this does not work properly. Check your owner manual for more information. Re: should I "seafoam" my SVX (last resort) VID. inside.
I put a can of cylynder restore evry other oil change and a can of seafoam the next oil change after that. I just alternate them and my motor runs flawlessly.

Re: should I "seafoam" my SVX (last resort) VID. inside.
I used it in my leggy and it did wonders for it. Don't follow the Youtube directions tho. There are proper directions out there on the internet if you look. You shouldn't let the booster hose just guzzle it up. You could do some damage that way. I just poured it down the hose in a stream about the size of a pencil lead while it idled. If it starts to choke you are putting too much in too fast. Also you don't have to rev the hell out of it when you're done. Be safe and have fun with the smoke screen!

Re: should I "seafoam" my SVX (last resort) VID. inside.
Seafoam coats the inside of your intake/valves and breaks down all of the goo that accumulates. I've never felt the need to use it in my svx. Usually an oil change with some Castrol GTX 10W-30 an OEM oil filter and regular use of premium fuel keeps mine quiet. Try 94 octane if it's available.

Re: should I "seafoam" my SVX (last resort) VID. inside.
I wouldn't dare put that crap in any engine I cared about without detatching my cats and my o2 sensors before it. Look what comes out the back before you put it in.
For a valve tap from a sticky lifter two tried and tested without the possibility of harming well worn exhaust components are Risonline and Valve medic. Both work magic cleaning out those nasty taps.

Re: should I "seafoam" my SVX (last resort) VID. inside.
I put about 1/3 can in and let it set for over 1 hour, let it run for about 10 min., then decided it needed more. put another 1/3 in let set for 10 min., then ran it for about 15 or so. reved it to clear it out some more.
The tick is almost not there at idle. but at higher rpms it seems louder. might just be a coincidence that anything happened at all. when i started it to put it in the first time, the tick was way quiet. where is the oil pump. maby its not getting the oil up there. maby that could cause them them to clog up in the first place. Ive never tried valve medic, but i think i tried risoline, Marvel Mystery Oil, and stp (super thick oil whatever thats called). maby a couple others nothing works. Re: should I "seafoam" my SVX (last resort) VID. inside.
I did the seafoam to 2 different imprezas awhile back (the internal through the vac port procedure) and it made both of them run like a top afterwards. It was the best $6 i have ever spent on both of those cars.
I like to run it though the tank too on occasion but I do it when I am running the tank out (long trips) to try to get the most effect out of it rather then putting it in to a tank and letting it go slowly throughout the week. I like the stuff and it really pi$$es the neighbors dog off when I do it i did it to a TDi once and it was amazing what it did for that car...not that anyone here has one but still....

Re: should I "seafoam" my SVX (last resort) VID. inside.
I haven't done these to my SVXi. They sound fine and idle smooth.
Perhaps I don't need to do that, and I don't plan to. While my mazda V6 was at 100K, I did "seafoam" once to that car. Before the oil change, I poured into 1/3 into engine and also drove around 10 miles. I was really surprised that it didn't really smoke much at all or crazy like the Impreza above in YouTube. Maybe my car engine was really clean inside. I always got consistent mpg on that engine and it idled very quiet. If you always take care of your engine and oil change at good interval, use good quality engine oil such as Mobil 1 and etc, you probably don't need to do "seafoam".

Re: should I "seafoam" my SVX (last resort) VID. inside.
Ok has anyone else heard about Mobile 1 engine oil blowing up suby engines? Apparently there was a thing on Nasioc about it so i've been kinda cautious not to use it.
