can a 5sp swap fix the svx tranny problem??
i was wondering. my trannys on its way out and im thinking of swapping it for a 5 spd. would i still need to install a trans cooler for the 5 spd transmission? and its prolly answered somewhere else but wats the total cost of swapping anyway?

A trans cooler is not needed with the 5MT. Cost varies hugely depending on what transmission you use, where you get the parts, and whether or not you do your own work. Figure anywhere between $1500 and $4000 ish?

well i dont care about speed off the line but mid and far end speed. i still want to be able to hit 140ish if i wanted. i prolly wil get a profesional to do it for me. i figured at least 3k but whatkind of tranny should i use? wrx? forester? outback? LAMBORGHINI??? lol jk

TomsSVX is the guy to talk to. Where are you located? A WRX 3.90 tranny is probably the best option for you.

The car will run better if you keep it an auto. You can get a built auto for the same or less than it will cost to butcher the car up and add the manual.

ive been wanting to switch to manual since i fell in love with 5 spd ever since i got a civic 5spd. i love complete control over my car. haha

I hate the lack of control with downshift/upshift that one has with an auto through the corners. Up here in the NC mountains, half the battle with the road is maintaining the powerband through the twisties. With an auto, I feel that too often it will freak out and upshift (happened to me a lot with my old svx). I really feel that for the enthusiast, a manual is the way to go. Straight line speed - yeah, I could see an auto being preferable.
