Re: Fs: COMPLETE ECUTune 2v7F setup

Due to E85 being 30% less thermally efficient than unleaded requires an almost equal amount to be injected to keep the motor running properly. Production vehicles from gm, ford and nissan average figures in the 11-15 mpg range while operating on E85. The higher octane rating allows for increased performance at higher compression ratios and the Alcohol content also cools the combustion chambers which should demand a hotter spark plug and more timing than stock if you want to have a well running motor. Basically there is no reason to run E85 if you just want better fuel mileage. I have heard the same thing about the erosion of the fuel lines, but have not verified this in relation to the materials of the components on our car. I will admit that I haven't researched this much though. I prefer performance over looks, but love it if I can get improved performance while looking stock. I went for suspension first and then power only due to needing new struts really really bad. I don't know what your aspirations are, but doing whatever you can afford without cutting corners will net the best results.

It does burn hotter, faster and so your gas mileage will suffer. For vehicles equipped for it, it drops gas mileage by about 25-35% compared to regular so if your looking at using E85 as a cheaper alternative to premium, forget about it as E85 at the cheapest is usually only 25% cheaper than regular and most places its about 18% cheaper. |

Also, E85 runs cooler, not hotter, than premium. You can take higher compression, higher boost, and more timing advance than premium gas, but that won't factor in for your potential setup. E85 is anywhere between 105-115 octane, as well. Gas mileage is a variable. I've heard people have as poor as 30% less efficiency and people with no change. Literally, YMMV ![]()

As for premium being E10, in most areas, yes. I always go to the one station here that still offers pure gasoline as regular and premium. Also there are a couple other stations around here that have lower grades in E10 but then have premium as 100% gasoline. With my 95 cutlass I had, It would average about 22mpg on regular (87 octane) with ethanol added, 24.5 mpg with regular true gasoling (87 octane) and would get 26 mpg with 89 octane 100% gasoline. This was over a few tanks of gas with the same driving habits so don't think it was just a one tank fluke. Ever since seeing that, I try to use pure gasoline as much as possible |

Re: Fs: COMPLETE ECUTune 2v7F setup
That's more like it! Thanks for the input guys.
![]() I was under no illusions that this would increase my mileage, however if I break even with the cheaper fuel I'll be a happy camper. If not, at least I won't be pouring my hard earned money into gas cartels. So if this won't hurt my ride, will increase my performance, get me off of fossil fuels, and open the door to all the big mods I would like in the future: sign me up. Zandar, you mentioned running a low ratio blend in your car, are you using this chip as well? I ask because, my SVX gas gauge being what it is, I imagine I will always have a little gas sloshing in my tank even after I fill up on E85 and flip the switch. I usually only put 12-13 gal in my car on a fill up, so I hope that flipping the switch doesn't require a full drain of the tank and can handle a little blend. Next stop, forced induction or maybe some cams. The sky's the limit right? ![]() |

Re: Fs: COMPLETE ECUTune 2v7F setup
Mine has no mods; that's why I'm running no more than E40 (any more and it throws a CEL). I have been toying with the idea of addind an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and going full E85, but funds are low at the moment. That, and I have yet to go looking for the FPR to see how difficut it would be to switch out!
![]() As for gas, just run your gas down as far as you can before switching to E85. The 2v7F is switchable, so run it on gas until about 40-50 miles after your gas light comes on (provided you're not driving too spirited). Your fuel pump mixes the gas, so after a tankful the amount of E10 left in your tank will be negligible. I know that flex fuel cars get worse efficiency, and I think ours might on E85 with just the chip. With an entirely new fuel map (including different timing advance), a hotter spark, and higher compression (or forced induction) I believe the differences are smaller (e.g., a turbo EG33 on premium vs. a turbo EG33 on E85, both tuned for the fuel they use, should be at least similar in fuel economy). But if you're doing all that, you're more interested in hp than MPG!

Re: Fs: COMPLETE ECUTune 2v7F setup
Okay so enough derailing. Is this set up sold or what?I don't plan on ethenal at all as NO where near me sells it but it at the right price the rest is tempting to get a bit more fuel econemy with some more power at the same time. Kinda wish my 94 was OBDII sometimes to open source it but oh well I get to not worry about the emissions. Maybe I'll just save for the Hydra. Hydra + H6= WIN That's why my EZ30R will be Hydra controlled.

Re: Fs: COMPLETE ECUTune 2v7F setup
If I have money in a few months I'll totally get this. Fuel bump is the biggest plus along with the injectors. I just need to do my coilovers and keep up with getting the parts I need to finish my Impreza at the same time. fuel economy bump will help a lot plus the small power up will be nice. to go with my dialy driving or starting track days.
