Key stuck in ignition
I just bought a 94 SVX and the key is stuck in the ignition. Car can be started ok, but It basically wont turn all the way back to the point where the key will come out. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

The switch on the transmission is probably stuck making the interlock think its not in park. Try bumping your transmission selector lever up a few times to try and free it. The other possibility is a stuck tumbler..... a spray with WD40 into the keyhole and some jiggling may free it.

He said it wont turn back to the point where he can remove his key...... have you ever accidently left it in drive or reverse and after turning it off tried to remove the key? The interlock prevents turning the key to "lock" while the car is in any drive selection, a safety feature to prevent the car from rolling away after you get out. Thats what makes me suspect the switch on the gear selector.

I think I have to step on the brake petal to take my key out but not sure and too cold to go look right now maybe tomorrow I could check.

Is it a converted 5-speed car, or an auto?
The interlock unit is right behind the shifter, in the console.

press the metal tab underneath the steering wheel where the "hidden" wheel adjustment lever is. It may be overed up with a plastic screw.
