Sudden jerk to the left
This started yesterday when I was driving down the Garden State Parkway to my hotel from work. I was driving and it felt like something wasn't gripping right, almost as if my car was hitting small patches of ice and slipping. I feel this vibration in the front end and then it wants to jerk to the left. I have to hold on with two hands to the wheel so I don't loose control of the car when this is doing this. It was only doing it at high speeds and very intermittent last night but then today on my way to work it seemed to get a little worse, still not doing it all the time but it feels like something is slipping and trying to grip or catch. This is on my 92 5speed if that has anything to do with what may be the problem. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Sudden jerk to the left
I would suspect your C.V. joints are failing, the left side probably.

Re: Sudden jerk to the left
I work in Forked River and have been staying in Absecon. I brought the car home yesterday and was able to make it home without anything breaking but the car did vibrate a lot intermittently and pull to the left. Could it possibly be something with the steering rack?

Re: Sudden jerk to the left
What's the best way to check if it's a c.v. joint?

Re: Sudden jerk to the left
Look under the car at the axles and check for broken boots. If they're broken, there could be dirt/salt/grit in there that could cause a bind.

Re: Sudden jerk to the left
Exactly the behavior exhibited before I "lost" my passenger side CV shaft. Sure enough, outer boot was torn and joint was empty and dry.

Re: Sudden jerk to the left
Yes, and I have seen the symptom with no torn boot, the c.v. clunked when the wheel was turned at hard lock though and jammed up occasionaly.
Potentily very dangerous so it needs fixing as soon as possible. |

Re: Sudden jerk to the left
Thanks for all the information. I have the car back at home and won't be driving it until I can get it checked out, probably this upcoming weekend. I will keep everyone updated as to what the problem is. Thanks.
