At some point in the tumble the driver's-side door opened, and I've often wondered if I would have walked away with minor cuts and bruises had that car been equipped with dopey "passive" seat belts. Does anyone know if there's some sort of defeat circuitry to keep these belts from retracting if the door opens in a crash?

hmmm...I have my doubts. But, I think if the door flies open there probably won't be much tumbling left and the car will come to rest before the seatbelt can retract enough to let you be ejected.

WOW. Thats something. I've never seen a flipped sti before. They don't lie when they say seatbelts save lives. My friend learned that the hard way.
