Once the plastic air intake hose to the TB is out the connection is very visible. It is actually a bare braded wire with spade type connector on my SVX. One end is bolted to the middle of firewall and other end is right on top of the AT in the middle. It does get coroded and blueish green looking. Mine came apart way to easy. The SVX has many ground wires and I think this wire supplements the normal grounding that takes place between the engine block and transmission housing. It will be interesting to know if it fixes your problem.

replaced the ground (which hasnt been connected for 2 yrs ) today on the rear muffler
and installed a thin 4 gauge ground on the firewall to the motor. Now while trying to start the car, when cranking it It turns over and cranks fine, but all the relays click wildly, the electric fans etc turn off and on in sync to the relays, and the check engine lite flashes also at the same time, and the car wont start.... hmmm.. Changing the engine temp sensor in the am. any other ideas ?

I recommend getting the codes read on your 97. Then if all the sensor are okay try disconnecting the (-)battery overnight, reconnectin the morning and let it idle for 20 minutes without touching the gas. I did this a few days ago and I think everything has reset including the TCU. It was a little rough starting the first two days after doing this but everything is fine now.

Bringing this post back from the dead.
I'm looking at someone's SVX and it's having this problem. It is also noticably affected by turning on the heater. Did anyone else notice a connection to the heater???

Turning on the heater (air conditioning?), will send a signal to the By-Pass Air Control Solenoid Valve, to increase air flow at idle in order to compensate for the extra power required to operate the air conditioning compressor.

I found two coil packs that were causing problems. It seems to have taken care of it...
