The flexplate will rattle regardless of it being in gear. It's bolted to the back of the crankshaft. Some people still call it a flywheel. This isn't accurate, but if your mechanic understands that term, it gets the point across. No big deal on mis-naming the part.
Get the car back in the air & check all your heat shields, and ensure nothing is wrapped up in the driveshaft. Basically just look for anything obviously out of place. Start simple & cheap, then work your way up.

Hmm, so I guess flexplate is out of the question then? Starting the car while jacked up yielded no noise in park. Again, really the only time the noise would occur was in drive (lifted) and when I had some throttle on the road. Any other ideas?

![]() Could it be an exhaust heat shield rattle as has now been suggested, or a rattle within, or associated with, the exhaust system. Is it road speed or engine RPM sensitive?

It's pretty much RPM sensitive.

Like Trevor says above, it could very well be the exhaust rattle you are talking about. This particular rattle tends to be RPM sensitive. You can generally get it between 1700 to 2100 RPM, or thereabouts.
This can be caused by loose heat shields as suggested above. It can also be caused by loose baffle plates internally in the resonator, which is the first small "muffler" in the exhaust line. From the driver seat this rattle can sound like it is coming from the transmission, because the resonator is directly below the transmission tunnel, and so are some of the heat shields. You need to check these cheap things to fix first, before you consider removing the transmission. Joe ![]() [And welcome to the Network and to SVX ownership ![]() ![]()

Thanks for everyone's help. I'll check with my mechanic today again and make sure that he identified the sound to definitely be from the transmission and nothing else.
And yeah, I'm very excited to be an SVX owner. To me, there's something just quite different about it. ![]() |
