red door light's
Hey
Yesterday I bought my first svx but there is some issues with it. The one issue I have under controll is the transmission that's broken. Another one is in the interior lighting. Basicly the problem is that the red light's located in the doors wont turn off. The other interior lights turn off just fine when closing the doors. Can someone explain to me what controlls this light's and what the problem could be?? Thanks Attached is a picture of my new ride |

That is a good looking SVX. It is beautiful! I am not sure which light you are talking about. If you can explain a little better, maybe I can help you. Thanks and welcome to the site.

....there's your problem right there...there shouldnt be red lights in the door...
Im guessing you mean the one that lights the ground up, located on the lower rear portion of the door panel. They could be red if someone changed the bulb. If that's the case, I dont know what would make it stay on.....If it's something else, it's probably an ameture wiring job. nothing wire cutters cant fix Welcome to the board ![]()

I don't have the electrical manual handy, but I believe the doors have a single contact wire to the dome dimmer control module and that controls the door and room lights. It could be that module is bad and that is why the dome lights work properly but not the door lights.

From taking a quick look at the FSM, it appears that all of the following lights get a different line from the control unit;
Courtesy Light LH Courtesy Light RH Key light (ignition) Key light (door) Overhead light So if both of your door lights are always on, but no other lights are on? It's obvious that the previous owner made some visual modifications. I'm wondering if he has added a switch somewhere to turn the red lights on?

The lights are supplied via a constant positive feed and are switched on/off via the negative ground circuit which is completed/interupted by the timer control unit. Circuits will be separated within the unit to prevent back feeds, probably by means of blocking diodes and the door step lights are on an individual circuit. A short circuit between the negative feed wire and ground would result in the lights being constantly illuminated. A continuity test to ground with the ignition off, i.e. when the circuit should be open, would prove such a fault. A short could be occurring at any point, but the most likely area will be within the door, and possibly could involve one of the bulb holders. These may be able to be removed from outside ot the door, in which case the tail end of the loom and connection can also be checked.

The previous owner was obviously a fan of visual mods. And it seems that he has modified the lights to be red instead of white...

Sarcasm appears to be your trade mark.

![]() I have exactly stated why no other lights would be affected, even though this may have appeared odd at first glance. There are but two lights on the same circuit.
