There's no official howto for their installation but there are some details throughout this thread.
Basically: - if there's any rust the old bushings will have to be carefully cut out (had to do this with one of mine) - new ones get pressed into place with a device that looks like a large C-clamp You may need to be creative when pressing in the new ones.

Just an update...
I have only 5 sets of rear diff bushings left in stock. There are still a sufficient amount of sway bar bushings left.

Alright Earthworm, I think I'll be ordering front and rear bushings... Can I go ahead and order them? You know how long it will take for them to get to Raleigh, NC?

Rear Differential bushings.
I installed the sway bar bushings last year, easy install and good fit.
When I joined the group buy, I did not even know I needed the rear diff bushings, but glad I bought them; mine were absolutely shot. I admit the difficulty of the job put me off, but I finally installed them this Sunday. Took all day long. The instructions may fit in 4 sentances, but pulling the axles loose and dropping the diff took a bit of manuvering. even harder going back in. I used a SawzAll to cut the original bearings, file to clean up the burrs in the housing, and a big***ed bolt with nut and washers to press the new ones in. First went smoothly, second one would not go in, took three hours of work to get that one bushing in. Done with no damage. On reassembly, did have a tough time getting the drivers side half shaft to pop in, but complete at dark:thirty. While at it I did the $15/15min & $20/20min mods. I am amazed at how much better it rides this morning!! I did not realize how the ride and handling were degraded by the worn out components, I guess I got used to them. Although difficult to install, I reccomend people pick up the remaining rear diff bushings; they were definately worth it in my case. |
