power steering rack wanted, new or used

hi everyone,

as the title says, i'm looking to replace a leaking uint in my 97 uk spec car, hopefully before this years JAE, can anyone help with the supply or source of one, thanks

There is a guy in scotland breaking two SVXes and selling the parts on ebay.

One of his cars is a 92 JDM model. I don't know if it's a 2WS or 4WS car. The 4WS rack, has a quicker ratio and will give your car a more sporty and responsive feel. His other car is a UK model.

You could also call Bucks Subaru in High Wycombe. 01494 564555. They are breaking an SVX at the moment.

Phil has already given you the right people to call.

If buying from the US, be careful. There are two types of rack, rev sensitive and speed sensitive. Your UK car needs the speed sensitive one.

If buying from a breakers here, be careful also. UK cars will all be correct for you. Some Japanese cars had the cheaper rev-sensitive type.

The "4 Wheel Steer" rack is 14.2:1. This is fitted to the JDM version L (Sep 91 to Nov 93, chassis number begins CXD).

The "Engine Speed Sensitive" rack is 17.1:1. "Engine Speed Sensitive" is a lame marketing term for "not speed sensitive at all". This is fitted to the lower spec USA cars and the JDM S3 model (Nov 94 to Jul 95).

The "Vehicle Speed Sensitive" rack is 16.2:1. This is the most common rack. Fitted to all UK and European cars and everything not in the above list.

Any of them can be made to work but, as Joe said, your best option is to try to get one from a UK car.

Did you try Peter [pedropochie] in Scotland? He might have a rack.
