Control Arm Bushings
Are the control arm bushings available or is everyone purchasing the complete Lower Arm Assembly from Subaru at about $ 270. I checked and found on the right side alot of excessive play at the control arm while grabing onto the wheel and shaking it. Without a doubt this has been the cause of intemitant violent steering wheel shake while braking getting off highways and on rough roads. It had gotten progessively worse to the point the tire felt like it was hopping. BTW all other possible causes have been eliminated. Are there aftermarket bushings available? I did read of a group buy awhile back and dont know the status on that. The car is a FWD 1994 L purchased new with 129,000 miles. Any suggestions or luck others had would be appreciated.

Are the bushings even "replaceable"?
They look like they're either pressed in or bonded in(glued or something). I was contemplating replacing all of mine, front and rear, with the ones off my parts car, but came to the descision that it would be easier just to replace the entire peices(front arms, and rear linkage) than try and get the bushings out. Then just get an alignment after... And sorry for asking, as you said you checked everything else, but are you sure it isn't the bearing? Or simply the axle nut not being tight?

For the heck of it I will check the axle nut for looseness but you can visually see alot of play side to side at the control arm and hear a clunk. I am at the point now where it appears bushings are not a viable option and that a new or used control arm is the only alternative. Anyone have a used right side one.

Oh I take your word for it, since you're looking at it, not me.
Just throwing out some ideas based on experience on the car. Having said that I am inclined to believe anything involving worn rubber parts, such as bushings, on these cars. Both being older, and if it's like mine it has the "self venting valve cover gaskets". Where the oil is dispersed over all of the lower front suspension parts. Keeping them lubricated with a fresh coating of oil. But also breaking down all rubber parts...

Do a search. Members are trying to get enough to go in for a group buy on the bushings.

I'm still considering the group buy since there have been several complaints about the lack of replacements. If enough interest is generated I will get the parts made and perhaps even offer the bushings installed with a core exchange basis.

Re: Control Arm Bushings
Understand this is a 13 year-old thread but posting hoping to get lower control arms, first passenger side, then driver's, for '96 LSi.

Re: Control Arm Bushings
In addition to Earthworm there was a company in Poland making poly bushings for the SVX.
