Opinion needed!! Deal or No Deal
I have a offer to trade a decent shape 86 300zx non-turbo, good condition, runs great, new timing belt, etc. and some money (maybe $1500)
for my 1992 SVX: mods in signature, needs rotors and has some scrapes as well. And I get to keep my new Volks Deal or No Deal

How many miles on each car? Any pics of each?
On the surface, it sounds like a fair deal, but, are you trading one problem for another? Is this a "pig in a poke"? Harry

I guess that all depends on how much you like an 86 zx, the current condition of your VX and how badly you need cash.
Personally I hate the body styling of that generation ZX (Z31) and wouldn't dream of trading mine for even the nicest of 300s built prior to 1989. I also wouldn't trade 231 horses for a whopping 160. But once again it really boils down to what you want. Only you can decide that. Ira |

Eh, it might be tempting, but figure you can save money for a few months you could buy an 80's zx and just have 'em both.
toss on some new rotors and daily drive the thing, save your money up for something else

Why would you trade a perfectly running SVX with budfreak drive train for a 300zx with boxy design?

nissan guy says no.
z31 300zx's were so painfully slow as a non-turbo. They're like the non-turbo supras of the same age. Your SVX is faster, prettier, and will be more of a collector's item in the future (the z32 300zx's are another story) |

I see your points, but I plan on leaving the country relatively shortly, and I can not keep up with the maintenance on the SVX. The Z is cheaper to insure, equally fun (nitrous with a 5 speed versus a 4.44 N/A SVX) and is less prone to breakage.
I am not sure... the SVX will need my undivided attention and care, while I can simply drive the Z. I think I will take the deal. I hope to return to the land of the Alcyone club, perhaps buy one when I am in Japan ![]() I will definately linger and will try to get another in a couple of years. As the FAQ says it is not a college student vehicle, although Greenmarine would disagree, but I digress. I shall make the proper calls, hey I may even buy the car back from the guy in a few years... But I would really rather have a cheap car and save up for my dream: the new P4/5, just kidding, a 6speed, black SVX, with STI brembos, and a stage three kit. (When I get out of college, I promise)

Good luck with the "Z", and in Japan. Do keep in contact on the Network - I bet you can provide the rest of us some valuable info about SVXi from Japan!!
![]() Take care! Harry PS: I call Raleigh home - joined the Army there in 1966. Wow, I think I just dated myself!! ![]() ![]()
