sun roof sticks

The sunroof on my 92 SVX requires a gentle upward push before it will open. Can it be adjusted, and if so how? There is probably a clutch adjustment on the motor, but where is it located and how do I access it? Thanks.

Just apply a bit of silicon spray to the seal around the edge, it will then work as normal.

If the silicone spray doesnt work, there is a bolt covered by a plastic clip right behind the sunroof. Pull off the plastic cover, and you will see a hexagonal bolt, tighten it (gently), and this will increase the torque setting for the motor.

Significant Technical Input
Two possible faults:

There are small nylon bushings that ride inside grooves. These bushings break and disappear, causing the mechanism to catch on various edges. The down side is that the only way to repair/replace them is to completely remove the sunroof and disassemble. I used, of all things, aquarium air tubing (1/4" lengths) to replace the bushings. They've been in place for over a year now.

Even when everything is in excellent condition, the seal that surrounds the roof panel is a bit too snug on the SVX and will swell a tad during rainy periods. The swelling will slightly pinch the panel and keep it from popping up. Good news is that it will abate a day after the rain lets up.

I think the sunroof motors just grow tired over the years.

That goes w/o saying but mine was just like everyone else's until I completely removed it and repaired the trolley bushings. Now it works properly, every time, barring the period following heavy rains when the surround is swollen. There's a Subaru TSB regarding that issue but the concern is so minimal that I haven't revisited it.

Great, I live in the perpetually moist Pacific North West, so my sunroofs will never work properly . . .

I recall my first wife's sister's comment regarding the NW after returning from living in Portland for several years:

"No wonder everyone there is nuts, they never see the sun!"
