Oh Also I did a volt meter test on starter wires etc. I got power on positive wires the other wire has no power. That could be because the inhibitor is keeping the negative charge from going to it. Is this the right analysis??? What else should I use the volt meter on???

You must remove the spring wire and washer for the shifter cable, then I believe three bolts. It didn't take more than thirty minutes. Once you have the harness unplugged, plug in another switch. If it starts, replace old switch. It's not hard, just take a look and you will see what I'm talking about.

ok did this now have to wait for part to come. One more question.....can a bad ignitor cause the same symptoms I had with the no start issue?? I don't think it would stop the starter from turning. Just wanna make sure I'm still on right track. The subaru repair manual point straight to the NSS with the symptoms that I have. My starter does not rotate either in park or neutral and the manual points right to the NSS (inhibitor). Thank you all so far for all of your help!!!!!

The ignitor will not stop the starter from turning.

I've been kinda having a similar issue... My car does that when I've driven and the car sits for a couple min. But after a couple trys it starts up. Might have to get my hands on one of those switches when I go get a new CV boot tom.

gest24, what you describe is classic Coolant Temp Sensor issues.

Car runs for a while, sits for a minute, and then won't fire up. I'd give that a shot before you go for the more expensive stuff

Would this be the issue if the car is sitting in a parking lot on a warm day with the sun beating down?

The Coolent Temp sensor will NOT keep the starter from turning the motor over.....I'd still say the NSS

well its not the NSS. I am wondering how to hot wire the starter ...meaing using a jumper wire to start car. If the car starts I would guess the ignition switch to be bad since I replaced the starter, replaced the battery ,tried a new NSS switch and checked all my fuses. What do you guys think???

ok how do I start my car by shorting the terminals. There are three bolts ...one connected to frame one connected next to ignition wire and one connected to motor side with wire going to solenoid. Which ones do I connect to get the starter to turn the motor?? I already heard the motor whirr by connecting batt power to motor wire. Need to find bolt that pushes get out to flywheel.

Run a wire from the positive side of the battery to the small trigger wire on the solinoid, and that will engage the starter if it's a problem in the wiring....

And the car will start at that point if the key is in the "On" position when you do it....

Do I disconnect the wire from the starter and apply power to the terminal? or do I apply power while the trigger wire is still connected!! That trigger wire slides onto a metal terminal on the starter. Just want to do it right and not fry anything!! Should I expect a big spark or smoke or any kind?? I big of a jumper wire do I need (heavy duty wire or just regular electrical wire?)
