Possible SVX header

Found these for VWs, wondering if they'll work on an SVX, not sure about the direction (pointing foreward or back?) or if they are reversable due to not having a pair of heads in front of me, but I wanted to pass it on...

Those headers definitely look like they're for the EG33 (plus the site says it's for the Subaru 3.3L engine).

I wonder what the price is, and if they'll match up to the stock header pipes?

I'd say that those are for the EG33, but the primaries are way too short to make the header beneficial. Minimum useful length would be 36" (and they should all be equal length). 40-50" primaries would be better but I don't think there is any where to fit them under the car.

I'm an SVX owner that came across your site this weekend and noticed the primary tubes you offer for the 3.3L Subaru engine (termed the EG33, it was only offered in the '92-'97 SVX).

What's the price for a set of your 3.3L primary tubes? What is the interior diameter of the pipes used for the primary tubes? What's the interior diameter of the pipe at the end of the collector?

I agree that equal length headers would be ideal, but several muscle car owners get decent gains from "shorty headers" which aren't equal length.

I forgot to ask them whether they have a pre-welded bung for the EGR tube. Disconecting it can cause havoc on a OBDII SVX....

The most important part of those headers is present, you can always weld extensions. If the price is right, i will order a couple for my car.

Not only that, but the design of the Outback Motorsports primaries is smoother flowing than the stock exhaust manifolds (just looking at the design w/o knowing the ID of the pipes).



If you look at the design of the factory manifold on the right, the back two primaries first move towards the front before taking a bend and flowing towards the back of the manifold (where the header pipes are hooked up).

Stebro was supposed to have developed some shorty headers several years ago, and only 1 set was supposed to have been made as the product never saw production. They claimed they saw a 10hp gain from those headers over the factory pieces.

I've visited some of my old Ford forums (from when I was an SVT Ligthning owner) and this was what one member (who happens to be a vendor)on mustangforums.com had to say on the shorty vs equal length headers debate:

As far as what is best in shorty headers goes it's debateable between equal vs. non in that the equal length headers will give you a narrower peak torque curve but will reduce top end torque a bit due to all the extra bends where the unequal shorties will provide for a wider torque curve but lower peak torque than equal length. this is of course short of the obvious issues of heat and accesability to the spark plugs which are both worse with the equal length headers.

In drag racing with shorties equal length is usually the best choice but the rest of the engine and car need to be tuned for a narrow torque band and short shifts.

I would choose long tubes myself but if a customer wanted shorty headers I would go with hedman or hooker.

I can honestly say I do not believe they will be any kind of an improvement... Just look at the bends in the pipe and then take a look at the stock headers... Our manifolds have nice swooping curves as opposed to these with sharper angles...plus they are not even a direct bult up... you would need and entire new exhaust system to support headers that prob will give you next to nothing
