Painting the waterfall grille?

I went to an autobody shop today to ask about how much it would cost to get the grille on my SVX painted red like the color of the car. They told me 75 bucks. I was wondering if anyone has some pics of the waterfall grille painted. Is 75 bucks too much? I would have gotten the 97' grille but im short on money right now and 100+ dollars for the grille plus painting is too mcuh money for me. I only want to get the grille painted because it makes a huge difference.

I don't think 75 sounds bad...surface prep, paint match time, color & clear loads, clean up...it isn't (much) about how much surface gets covered.

you could go to a vinyl graphics shop and get a piece to try it out - won't be a color match, but you'll get a feel for it, and only be out a couple of bucks.

Check my locker, I painted my grill, although my car isn't the same color as yours. Had some primer and sandpaper lying around, so it only cost me $3.47 for a can of Dupli-color paint (the closest match I could find).

Yea IMO it just looks so much better with the grille painted. I hate the waterfall grille. The lights need to be seperated by some color. The regular grille just looks to plain....so i think im going to get it painted.

That front grill was the only thing i hated about the front of the SVX. Every time i looked at it i thought, Ford..
With it painted, the front end looks SOOoo mutch better. I would recomend it to anybody. $75 is a perty good price. You can get it cheaper if you pull the grill from the car and bring it in.

Why not light it up, assuming we are talking about the mock headlight. Here is an LED setup but anything will work. Sorry about the greenness.

I painted mine a while back. At the time I used a cheap gloss black spray paint that's not an exact match, but I bought some good matched paint from an auto paint shop and plan on redoing it. From a distance it doesn't look too bad though:

Shoden, You see how much of a difference it makes with the grille painted?

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. How much of a difference what makes? Gloss vs. flat paint, or just the general appearance of the car?

As for your red paint, it should say on the can if it's flat or gloss. If it's flat, you can either go buy another can of paint, or you can try using clearcoat over the flat paint.

I was referring to the general appearance of the car. Heck I might be able to paint the grille myself and save a bunch of money.

Okay, yeah, I see a difference in the way the car looks, and I like it. The waterfall grill is about the only thing I don't like about the SVX... I'm one of those that think it looks too much like Mercury or Ford of the same era. I'd rather have a '97 style grill, but this is a cheap fix for now.
