is it worth it?

my husband wants to buy this '92 svx.... the dealer's asking $4900, but the car needs the axle fixed & a new ps box. i looked up the book value & it's only $3820, if even that, depending on how bad it really is. can you give me an estimate of how much it'd cost to fix... & how much do you think we should offer the guy?

p.s. the car's been on his lot for 2 years! wouldn't start, he had to put another battery in it, just so we could start it.

Not enough info to give a ballpark price on it,
But...The axle,.. if he is handy with a wrench will cost about $75 for a rebuilt axle + labor.
I doubt the PS Pump is bad, it's probably just the O-Ring on the reserve tank, it's a common problem, but a 50 cent O-ring and 10 minutes and it'd be fixed.
Let the dealer think it needs a new PS Pump, to get him down on the cost

But we'd really need some more info to price it...Like
Model: Is it a LS or an LS-Tour? (the Tour has leather and sunroof)
Mileage:
Color:
Clear title?
Has it had paint work?
Are the wheels on the right side? (Yes there is a wrong side)
How are the tires?

You see where I'm going, it's very hard to say with out actually looking at the car in question.

But if you supply us with enough info we can maybe give you a close figure.

There is a person I know in Dallas who's owned a '92 since new. He's pretty well versed in the SVX and, perhaps, he'd go with you to evaluate the car. I could try and contact him, if you'd like.

i guess its an LS-tour, but all it says on the back is svx... it has leather interior & sunroof. i don't know about the title & all that. paint's not too bad but the clear coat is peeling a little. i don't know about the wheels, i think the tires were ok. like i said, it's been sitting on the lot for 2 years. it still has the '01 windshield stickers.

Did I miss part of this thread? I'm not really understanding why you would post that. There were some pretty basic questions asked, the same questions asked of ANY person new to SVXs.

What gives?

What the heck was that all about? It's like a tree in the middle of the fast lane on the highway. You were cruisin right along and suddenly SLAM, it comes out of nowhere. Did somebody PM her and say she was a moron, or did she just get in a fight with her husband and take it out on us? I hope she doesn't get that car. A woman with her priorities so out of wack don't deserve such a fine atuomobile.

it just pissed me off that people wanted more details on the ****in car & then no one said anything about it ever again.

Well actually, your last post was "that sounds cool. i'll get back to you on that... i gotta see what my husband says."

That certainly leads me to believe that everything was wrapped up unless we heard otherwise from you. We never did... Until your pissed off post.

Try to remember what you say you will do before going off on us for not doing what you wanted us to.

Doug

well, that was to the guy that said he knew someone in dallas & would get a hold of him if chris (my husband) wanted him to go look at the car with him of course my husband didn't want some guy to go with him, so i didn't say anything. i guess maybe i should've posted "oh, well he doesn't want the guy to go look at the car, sorry, blah blah..." you're all a bunch of guys, you should've known the answer to that question anyway

everyone can stay pissed at me, whatever.
