Wheel Bearings...Front & Rear??
I am sure someone is going to holla at me for not searching this before asking...LOL I can hardly hear when running 60/70 MPH in my car, the bearings are SHOT and im just hoping my hubby is trying to scare me telling me it will weld to the housing and something will come out from under it and the wheel and all will come off and if im running 60/70 I will probably be flipping...(is this true) <p>More importantly can someone send me the best local place and the numbers of the bearings so I can order them or call about them tomorrow. I need to write a check so I would rather get them here. Does the seals or whatever I need come with them and do I need front n rear? Can I get away with doing rear only? (for a couple weeks) <p>Any help is appreciated, I will print it in the AM and order them tomorrow....THANKS!

Search for wheel bearings. You'll need a bearing, 1 inner and 1 outer seal per wheel. ALWAYS have a subaru dealership replace them, or find a shop that has a hub tamer tool to replace them properly or you'll be replacing them again soon. (DO NOT USE A PRESS) Most independent shops won't have this special tool and even if they did they won't know to use it on this car, but it is the only way to fix them properly. Subaru put out a bulletin on this. Additionally, the sealing surface of the axle may have a groove worn in it that will require axle replacement.

Tom Here is the parts list; $105.00 labor, $66.33 for a rear Subaru bearing.#28016PA010 $7.06 for Subaru seal #28015AA070 $8.56 for Subaru seal #28015AA080 $3.50 for Subaru wheel nut #28044AA001 $42.00 for steaming, degreasing, repacking and pressing the new bearing. $4.28 tax $236.73 Total.

I've driven both of mine for weeks with the faint-but-telltale roar of a bearing going bad, but if they're that loud you really need to have them replaced ASAP. I'd get a second opinion from a good mechanic before replacing both the fronts and rears.

Timken wheel bearings
I did the rears only on my Red 96 Lsi. They werent noisy yet, but just preventative maintenance and peace of mind. Plus we were overhaulin the entire brake system, and it just seemed like a good idea to put in fresh bearings. I went with the Timken brand, which cost me $45 each, and labor was $80 a side. So I got both rear sides done for $250 parts and labor. Great deal, and a great mechanic as well. Stay away from the Subaru dealer, they know very little to none about working on an SVX. If your close to SVXfiles, take it there, you will have peace of mind for sure.

Bob's auto repair probably doesn't care to pay for alldata, and even if they did, they wouldn't bother to look up technical bulletins for replacing the wheel bearing. And even if they did that, they wouldn't buy a $500 dollar tool just for Subarus. But go ahead and press them in, indent the inner race and out of round the knuckle. See you in 20-50k miles for the next set.

yep, replaced them a year ago and i'm hearing a slight whining in the rear... trying to tell myself its the tires, but I know deep in my heart its time to add wheel bearings to the standard wear replacement list... oh well at least I can skimp on the axle nuts this time

I was hurting in the wallet department when my bearings started acting up. I drove with them screaming for several months. The thing was like driving a sherman tank. No need to bother with the radio because no volume was loud enough to drown out the bearing noise. Fortunately, no harm done. I took them to a local shop and they had them swapped out in a matter of hours. It came up to about $400 for both rear wheels.

you are not ranting, you are saving us money while helping us keep our ladies up and running. wheel bearings are a common problem on these ladies and not replacing them every 30,000 miles is a large help. i have driven on a bad wheel bearings till they made so much noise you could not talk over them which was a bad idea as when they were replaced I also had to replace the hub but is extreme situation
