Rear Wiper trouble

I bought my SVX about 3 days ago, and the rear window wiper was not working. I checked today and found that the fuse was blown. I replaced the fuse and now it STILL doesn't work. When I turn on the wiper, I can hear the motor running or something making a noise like its running but the blade is not moving. I'm not sure on how to remove the plastic things that hold the carpet lining of the trunk in place so that I can get to the motor. I'm afraid of breaking them. Do I just unscrew them, or are they more like nails and I can just pull them straight out?

Also, if anyone has experienced the same or similar problem, can they post what they did to fix it? So that once I get in there I can have a better idea of what to do with it

Thanks for the help guys!
