high compression via a milled head?

I was watching a show on SPEED channel over spring break and saw someone mill off part of the bottom of the head. They then coupled this to the block with a copper head gasket. This supposedly raised the compression of the motor sightly without the pain of changing out pistons. Is this a feasible idea for an SVX even if it's just getting slightly higher compression?

Bore, 3.815", = SA of 11.430851 sq/in

11.430851 X 0.050=0.5715425 cid

202 cid engine cid, 10 to 1 compression ratio gives 20.2 cid head volume.

0.5715425 X 6 (cylinders)= 3.429255 cid is the volume decrese.

20.2- 3.42955=16.7045 cid head volume gives 12.063302

This represents the compression ratio of an engine cut, or machined the thickness of 17 sheets of newspaper.

Tomorrow, when I am fresh, I will check these figures.

10 to 1 compression ratio, 202.46 cid
20.246 cid in head.
Max head shaving allowed by Subaru; 0.012”
Max block shaving allowed by Subaru; 0.016”
Total of allowed displacement removal1.9203828 cid
20.246 minus 1.9203828 = 18.325618 head volume.
Compression ratio is now 11.047922 to 1

It still sounds like that is too much change for the little removed.

And retard the cam timing slightly, less than one degree.

Hmmm, from 10:1 to 11:1 seems really interesting, but that would not be for the benefit of those who want to do additional valve lift.

can there be a way to estimate any HP gains when pushing the compression up to 11:1? Is this still a possibility to be done in correlation with the deltacams increase in duration but without any increase in lift? I have reached a point where I need to decide what route I'm going to go with my car. I'm 98% sure that it will be N/A at this point, but still thinking.

0.028 inches is only 0.7mm. Would that be enough clearance reduction to cause a problem with the 1mm lift increase on the Delta cams?

0.028" = 0.7112 mm
According to research by SVXRide, Mychailo, NeedForSpeed and Harvey, the limit for intake cam lift is about 8.9 mm.(limit against coil bind)
With the 8mm lift cams, and shaved heads everything should still clear.
However, Chi ke has shown us links saying a bump in compression is not that important above 10 to 1 ratios.
My own experience, has been with lower compression motors going up to 10 to 1, and those results were very satisfying.

Even if you got it all fit and figured, gains would only be in the teens..

Umm.... kemo sabbies...

Would the rather exact length of the intake manifold not be an issue here?

I mean, we are talking about very small distances here, so I don't know, but it seems to me the the intake ant couldn't bolt up any more.
