4.11 swap - aftermath
Well, my mechanic buttoned up the car yesterday and I took her out driving. Everything seems fine, no binding around corners, FIRM shifts compared to my slipping stockbox, and ACCELERATION
(your money order is on its way Tom) Seems I'm having one issue: when letting hammering the gas or letting off the gas at highway speeds, there is a loud rattle coming from the center of the car. Im HOPING its just loose exhaust shields... thoughts?

Its a REALLY noticeable scraping/grinding rattle, if it helps, it also does it as soon as I turn the key to start her up

If not the heat shields it COULD be the Torque Converter bolts being loose. They make ugly noises. They're also not a huge deal to check.

how should i got about checking them? pictures or diagrams would help.
my mechanic reused the torque convertor from the 4.11 trans... is that going to be a problem down the road? or will it be fine if I don't romp the car

yea well on the highway things finally went - the car just started revving freely, and then wouldnt start at all, when i turned the key something would spin but no click... took it back to the shop and he said he will tighten up the flywheel bolts

my guess is that your flexplate actually came loose from the TC this means that the engine will rev freely and the starter will spin the TC (but not the engine, as the TC isn't connected to the engine via the flexplate anymore). Make sure the mechanic checks to make sure the bolts didn't get wedged anywhere where they could come loose later and make things messy. My guess is that they all ended up on the highway (assuming they actually installed all of them in the first place).
-Bill p.s. you can see the flexplate bolts through the access hole at the top of the passenger's side of the engine -- there may or may not be a rubber stopper in the hole.

would it be normal for some trans fluid to leak during this process?

Another possibility is that a cracked flexplate completely separated...
Where there any harsh noises when you lost power? How much fluid are you talking about????

no horrible noises, i shifted down to 2 and it 'caught' for a few seconds and held power but then revved freely again. Not much fluid, probably half a quart at most

take a look through the access hole and see if you can see the flexplate

You should ONLY use SVX torque converters, or 4,44 torque converters, and THOSE only with 4.44 transmissions.

Ya know, i am not very far at all and usually I can tell you what it is upon the first inspection. I wish you would have brought it here in the first place
