exhaust setup
Hi, Im planning to made a new exhaust setup(from the engine flange to my magnaflow muffler)
I have one muffler so no dual setup >Stainless tubing I want to use 2 high flow cat and one resonator What i want to find its the best size of tubing, n/a mod like knife edge, port and polish, intake, ecutune, etc have the good backpressure and a little more response? Im thinking for 2 1/4"(2po?) on each side of the manifold going into the Y pipe and the outlet 2.5po(3po?) my muffler is a magnaflow 2.5po give me your opinion and if you have example of one it will be nice! thanks alot (sorry for my bad english) |

Re: exhaust setup
2.5" is ideal for a 230 horsepower motor. it should flow a little over 500cfm which is about what the engine needs to have no restriction at the highest rpm in the horsepower range. that being said, you can half that for each side before the y-pipe without creating restriction. really your highest restrictions are going to be the cats (even if they are high flow) and the muffler. going any larger on the pipe without eliminating these restrictions would be unnecessary and can't compensate for their restriction.

Re: exhaust setup
ok thank for the information, so 2.5" will be the best, and 1 1/4" for each side of the Y pipe.
the best place to put the 2 high flow cat is in each side of the headers(before the y pipe)? I read the oem manifold have a good flow, so it now neccesary to change them? somebody have a picture of svx *custom exhaust line setup? |

Quote:
To match the cross section of the 2.5" tube you have to know the square inches. So, 3.14159 X R (1.25") Squared = 4.9087343 square inches. 1.75" tubes would be ideal, except a for finding a two into one cat that has two i.75" in, and a single 2.5 outlet. 1.75 devided by two is 0.875 for the radius. 3.14159 X 0.765625 = 2.4052798 square inches. So the best compromise in my opinion is the 2" in and 2.5" out.
