Canadians have a sense of humor

A 1992 pearlie from Ontario with only 40,000 miles. Maintained in original condition by the original, non-smoking owner. Says it has never seen winter or rain driven (but fails to mention if it has ever enjoyed a garage)

No rain or snow in Canada? How many days are left to enjoy the benefits of AWD?

Can be yours for $24,999...

Re: Canadians have a sense of humor

I have that one on my watch list. I laughed when I first saw it.
I think he's living about 20 years in the future when it might be worth that.
No snow maybe but no rain... give me a break! Why does he have all weather floor mats as seen in one of the photos?

Hey Gamesy, you're not far from Markham. Go see him to check on his sanity.

It is in beautiful mint condition though.

Re: Canadians have a sense of humor

That many years I doubt it.. My cousin back in 1985 did have a beautiful 1985 Pontiac that never saw rain for 3 years. One day he went to use the windshield washer and it didn't work took it to a dealer and found the wiper motor never was connected. 3 years maybe 20 + . Right now from my observations. $6,000 is a premium price to get for a perfect , low ( under 100,000 mile ) SVX
There are exceptions of course. Asking $10,000 + is really shooting at the moon.

Re: Canadians have a sense of humor

It needs repairs too. Exhaust, steering leak, scratches and dings and there appears to be rust starting on the usual side cladding mounting points.

Re: Canadians have a sense of humor

Wow! Is this a hopeful sign for SVX values? A few people with a great sense of humor?

So, Svxcess' car should price for about $48k. Would you sell for that?

I don't want to sell mine but it makes me wonder at what point I'd be stupid not to.

It's hard to find a nice enough replacement, IMO.

I would sell you John's SVX for $48,000.00
for that much I could get you a title!

Sorry John!

Thanks so much for the compliment. As you said, at what point would you be stupid not to?

If you love the SVX, the problem would be to again find a replacement SVX as nice as the one you sold.

If for some reason I was forced to sell my SVX, and all my spare parts, I feel that $15,000 would be more realistic.

Re: Canadians have a sense of humor

I might be in a bit of an SVX swoon, but I just don't see the quality in many cars for the price of the used, well-maintaned, SVX. It would be hard to replace, even at 15k, I think.

Now, you take an example like the "Pristine Polo", I think it'd take more than 15k. I've never seen the car and do favor Polo, but, if it is as nice as it looks in pics and people's comments on the forum, it'd be a bargain at 15k. Replacement cost would be substantially higher. Of course, I know that's not how the world works.

Sorry, just carrying on about our cars again. Like Gollum with the one ring. "My Preciousss."

You are correct Sir.
John's SVX is pristine.
I have spent more time under it than anyone over it, and yes, it's pristine!

Re: Canadians have a sense of humor

A lot of things have a value not based in intrinsic worth, but rather, their scarcity. Gold, diamonds, etc., command high prices because their availability is controlled. Land? Well, they aren't making any more of it, so location determines it's worth.

SVXs', on the other hand, have a much more " location based" market. In eastern Canada, we use salt... lots and lots of it. Western Canada, not nearly as much, if at all. Why? Because it gets too effin cold for salt to work. As a result, in eastern Canada, it's rare to find a rust free " daily driver" Sales are becoming more and more polarized between "garage queens" and "parts cars". In Western Canada, they are still to be had. I know, I bought one and had it shipped 2000 miles. It was a leap of faith, and I got lucky... very lucky. Most people wouldn't have taken the risk. The size of "The Great White North" and it's low population density ( 35,000,000 ) usually dictates buying from a limited local market. More people ( and SVXs' ) live in California than in all of Canada.

Canadians cross border shop for a lot of things, but cars aren't usually one of them. No matter how nice the ad, people in general like to touch it, drive it, get it looked at by a pro, before buying a car. In the U.S., with it's higher population density and large areas where no vehicle has seen salt, it's a different ball game.

As scarcity dictates price, how far off into the future will it be when a crisp SVX is worth $10,000.00 and a garage queen is worth $20,000.00? I don't know, it may never come, it may be in just a few years. Every day, another one gets parted out, another one goes to the scrap yard. That's sad, but unfortunately true. I would think that the prices would rise first in the areas where salt is an everyday occurrence in the winter, followed by the salt free areas.

24K ... Ummmm.. NOT!.. For that kind of money, I could fly to a salt free area, look at a couple of different ones, buy one, see the sights for a couple of days, fly home, have the car shipped, and have thousands left over.

As an investment, an SVX is questionable at best. Google isn't it's friend. If you don't look for one, you'll never find one for sale. They get buried pages deep, pretty quick. I've noticed that when I see one on Kijiji, the hit counter often shows over a thousand views. I wonder how many people just clicked to see what the hell an SVX was. And people usually suck at writing the ad. You virtually never see " designed by "Giorgetto Giugiaro of ItalDesign", or " one of only 14,000 imported into the U.S., or anything that would get someone to come out, drive the car and find out about it.

Canadians? Great sense of humour, eh? .. Just too bad about the salt..

Drive it like ya stole it, fix it when it breaks, keep it as crisp as you can, snap up a parts car if you've got the room. In ten years? who knows? you might get your money back, you might break something that can't be repaired and sell it for parts... but either way, your butt had ten years in one kick ass ride!
