Have read about ideas like this in older threads. What I remember is that Young Tom did a Phase 2 4EAT swap into one, and that was supposed to pave the way for a 5EAT, with paddle shifters. But the wiring was a PITA and took a long time, and there was a small issue they couldn't figure out how to get around with the torque control or something.

There is little to no documentation of his efforts here on the forums also, so the best way to start would be to talk to him directly.

So, yes, it could be done, I am sure. But I'm also pretty sure no one will be willing/able to attempt it.
