I got the rear seat out and lifted the rear of the car. I think that the hard lines that run over the top of the tank are rusted through. It's possible that it's just the flexible lines that connect the hard lines, but the hard lines are very rusty.

If I'm right, this is very discouraging. It means I have a lot more work ahead of me. It is at this point that I consider very hacky things like bypassing the hard lines and just running rubber lines under the seat.

Just so that you are aware, if you need to drop the subframe, its only six bolts.
Six big @$$ bolts, and let the subframe hang from the struts.
It will give give you the room that you would need to reach into that Pandoras Box.
