After recently damaging my shoulder I bought a longer torque wrench (21")and made a simple tool for holding an axle still.
It is a flat bar, 1/4" thick, 1,1/2" wide, 24" long with a 12mm hole drilled into it 5" from the end.
If you slip the flat bar over an wheel stud,
(install a wheel nut if you like)
you can then pull against the bar for smooth control and leverage.
