After it starts cracking it can "hole" the flexplate, as shown here;

I have seen one that ran the engine long enough to wear out the back
of the engine block!
On this one engine he now has a permanent small oil leak, that could only be properly repaired with complete dissassembly of the engine and a reseal.
On this same SVX the torque converter had to be replaced because they continued to run the engine until the locating lug on the front of the torque converter was worn away, beyond service.
Please note that this was an extreme case.
