My common practice when changing oil is to fill the new filter with oil as much as possible, so the filter itself is "primed" upon startup. The OEM Subaru filters and the Purolator OEM-size filters allow this - put the Porsche filter does not.

This indicates a difference in construction - and what the difference is I don't know. I like the concept of a larger filter, just have my doubts as to why it doesn't allow "pre-filling".

Any thoughts on that?
You could disconnect the ignitor before you actually start the engine.
This allows the bearings to get pre-oiled before you add the pressure of a running engine.
I always do this after the oil pump gets replaced or resealed.
