Re: Quick "Battery Disconnect" question

I've disconnected the battery many times and never had to re-program the remote. Put the key in the ignition to prevent sounding the alarm when reconnecting.

I once tried one of those 9V memory...

Re: new WRX

A new XV Crosstrek parked next to my '08 Outback the other day, and I was surprised how similar they look viewed head-on.

Re: NO MORE CLICK click CLICK START..ONLY START! starter relay

The relay mod doesn't involve the existing relay under the dash; instead, you'll be adding a supplemental relay under the hood. I would encourage anyone experiencing this problem to forget...

Re: Question about a used Transmission

I believe the quality of the reman or competence of the rebuild is key, regardless of modifications. I've put 40,000+ miles on stock transmission that was installed over 15 years and 120,000 ago...

Re: NO MORE CLICK click CLICK START..ONLY START! starter relay

I recommend Harvey's Bosch relay mod. Tried replacing the ignition switch and under dash relay on my silver SVX, to no avail. The relay mod totally eliminated the problem.

Re: subaruparts.com coupon

It's kinda like the Post Office: I've always been mystified by how folks complain about the service, when in almost 40 years of being a USPS customer I can't recall a single issue of consequence....

Re: True top speed?

The article in Performance magazine a few years ago featuring the SVX pace car described the SVX as "140 capable" or some such, but I suppose a skeptic would consider that a biased source.

Re: Which Outback should I buy

1992 SVXs—combined average MPG 2005-2013: 21.19
2008 Outback 2.5/4 speed EAT—average MPG June-August 2013: 23.40

I'd guess the 3.0 probably returns numbers similar to the SVX and say it's...

Re: A retrospective look at life:Post-SVX.

Aww, man, I really didn't need to read this. When I let mine go, I'm going to be like Tom Hanks in that scene from "Cast Away" when Wilson vanishes over the horizon.

Re: a/c compressor

Both of my SVXs have been running compressors from here for years:

$325.00 US, "ships today." Surely...

Re: Quarter Panel Repair Discussion

The temptation is to address rust perforation with a grinder and some body filler. That sort of repair could last for a few years, or a few months. Replacing the panel (or a portion thereof) as...

Re: RADIATOR... cRaCk!.. HELP!?

That's nuts. Was $350 not so many years ago (and probably $225 not so many years before that).

Re: Where to buy?

As I recall, these bushings are curiously omitted from the subaruparts.com parts diagram for 1992; you have to look at a later model year.

Re: Quarter Panel Repair Discussion

They offer no guarantee because any repair that involves body filler is temporary, and doing it right gets to be costly.

Re: Coolant Leak - Help Please

Start with the simple stuff: Be sure it's not just a loose hose clamp. Taking off the undertray and looking around underneath the car with a flashlight is easy. Use a rag to wipe grime from suspect...

Re: Which Outback should I buy

Consumer Reports reliability ratings, compiled from subscriber surveys, give the '08 2.5 Outback "much better than average" in the "engine, major [problem]" category. The head gasket issue may...

Re: 1986 Subaru GL or DL questions for a guru

Actually, the headlight thing is the other way around, at least for MY 1986: GL=2, DL=4 (old-style sealed beans for the latter, as I recall).

I had an '86 GL wagon, 1.8L w/carburator, 5 speed MT,...

Re: New Outback Info

A very non-specific endorsement: The couple who recently sold me their '08 Outback (definitely an "It's All We'll Drive" family) moved up to a 2013 model. He wanted a Forester and she didn't, but he...

Re: what is it about the svx?

Don't know what it is exactly (aside from the fact that I tend to be way too sentimental about such things), but I need to let go of at least one of mine (anyone interested?), and thinking about this...

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Other Subaru: Taped temporary registration into the back glass, then topped the tank of the '08 Outback 2.5I I just bought. Somebody made me an offer too good to refuse. (I hope.) Regretfully...

Re: Any suggestions for shipping a windshield?

Is the moulding you describe something other than the "rubber dam" shown on a (subaruparts.com) parts diagram?

Re: Any suggestions for shipping a windshield?

How are windshields shipped to installers? Maybe the seller could ask some nearby glass company if they have a leftover crate and padding that could be modified as needed.

Declare a value to the...
