Transmission Fluid
What type of fluid is best to put in once you've rebuilt your tranny? I read that 7.4 quarts is the ammount that is needed too, making sure this is correct as well. I just want to put the best stuff possibly in it.

A quality synthetic ATF like Mobil 1, Amsoil or Redline would be desirable. The 4EAT transmission and torque converter would take 12 quarts of fluid.
Where did you get the 7.4 qt. figure? . |
just looking through info I found on the web, idk, apparently someone is way off though, it would be the first time I would do it, so I guess I'm glad I asked
|
I've used Redline in my RX-7s through the years and have had outstanding luck with it. Granted, those were all manuals, but it's still a quality product.

Don't over fill!
12qts may be too much, I'd go with more like 10 to start. You don't want to over fill. Over filling is much worse for a transmission than not putting enough in. When I rebuild my tranny, had the tq completely drained, I put in 11qts. I was a little worried about having overfilled it but it ended up being good.
I think if you just drain the tranny and let it sit for a few hours you need to put around 7qts back in. |
the best method is to dump some in, measure, repeat

they have this stuff called "trickshift" in my advance auto near me. i swear by it! its a bit thinner but has the same heat disipation (cant spell lol) i swear when i changed my tranny fluid and pu trickshift in the shift time was a bit faster and it seemed smoother. also its got this funky blue color... lol
heres a link to it http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...5&autoview=skuhttp://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...5&autoview=sku |
Dissipation
I miss the spelling on all words that have double letters all the time.:)
If it has a place for 2 double letters in the same word, I miss them both. |
wow, seems like everyone has their own opinion on this, now to choose the right one.....hmmmm:p

trick sift, trickshift, trick-shift....

If you are going to change to a Synthetic you need to drain the whole 11 quarts, or you will be mixing the two types of oil together, that is not good.:( Harvey. |
Any transmission that my company sells automatically comes with Mobil 1 transmission fluid where internal heat is an issue, and cause of premature failure. Not only will Mobil 1 handle the excessive heat better than dino oil, but will also lower internal tempreture.

Keith.....you don't.
even if you were to remove it, it's almost impossible to drain if flipped over. It's never adviseable to drill a hole and attempt to re-weld as it wouldn't be balanced. |
wait, so I'm not really sure what was in my car prior to the rebuild. I didn't even mess with the whole transmission, I just did the front differential, which brings up another question, what gear oil is required for the front diff? 90w?
