I could put together a small "Reading" meet as we traditionally remember it, at the Holiday Inn on April, 27-29, who would be interested in showing up?

Like the impromptu first Reading meet. No events or itinerary scheduled, just the members who remember how great it was not to do anything but connect with old friends and relive happy memories.

No time for a block of room or a formal signup list. Time is of the essence; just settle on a date and then individual call-ins to reserve a room. Sure we will have time for a scenic drive and group dinner.

The alternative date would be the following weekend, May 4-6, 2018.

I'm in. While I'm sure the hill climb event — or maybe it should be named the “Pagoda Meet”— will be a decent enough event, it strays beyond what the Reading Meet has become over the years. It is centered around the hill climb and the padoga, as opposed to the actual people. I'm in.

Rosie and I are in for April. August 17th is our 49th wedding anniversary so an SVX meet is definitely out for us. We are going to play "President & Porn Star" that weekend. I'm not sayin' who is who.

Based on previous posts and emails I have received, What if we changed it to May 4-6, 2018? Would more be able to attend? The weather may have improved a bit

Larry, our 10th anniversary is August 16th. I'm fairly certain that my wife will not want to go to a hill climb for it and, if we did, it would be the very last time any of you see or hear from me.

Also, my car would magically appear for sale on eBay shortly after said Padoga Meet. The late April or early May dates are fine with me...

I want to live! :D

Now there is an idea for a reality TV show! :lol:

I'm local and will do my best to show up whenever. I'd just need to know if anything will be planned beyond standing around in the parking lot whining about kids these days and the weather. If that's all there is, I know when to show up. ;)

For anyone mildly interested in the Pagoda hillclimb, it is a truly cool event:

• No admission
• Wander around the staging area gawking at cars
• Wander over to the start line and watch the launch and first hairpin
• Wander up the hill and watch a few more hairpins
• Take shuttle up to Oh S**t corner and find out why its called that (shuttle may have a fee)
• Take shuttle to top of hill and watch them cross finish line flat out

I can't attend May 4-6 as I'll be in Chicago for work. If I can figure out a way, I can maybe visit a day. Also, my car currently is down as I'm waiting on the radiator to be made/arrive so I wouldn't have been able to bring it anyway.

Oops forgot about it. Even asked for time off back in Feb and everything. Got wrapped up with other thing and forgot it. Maybe next year. Was looking forward too it. Got other plans for this weekend.

I think this years Reading SVX Meet (Reading 18) was great. It's not about the cars. It's always about the friendship of seeing old friends and making new ones. This years meet was small and close knit. We all stayed at the Holiday Inn because of the terrific new attraction next door. I will give a hint ... It's automotive. See you all there next year whether you bring your SVX or not.

To everyone who expressed concerns, let me assure you that I am alive and well but thoroughly bummed out (and a bit depressed) and sad that I could not attend. An unexpected family emergency surfaced that required immediate attention. The crisis is past but took its toll.

I was ready to go and all this happened. Car was washed (first time in 2 years) detailed and packed. I did have a frozen rear caliper “meet monster” issue that was rectified only days before.

I am sorry that I disappointed many of you and I was just as disappointed. I promise not to let this happen again and will do my best to keep this traditional Reading meet alive. The people and friends have always been the main attraction .

Never has been about the numbers who attend or expectations. I will talk to each of you privately to explain and apologize.

Well, I had written a long post (too long, obviously) on Monday, but, by the time I was finished, I had been logged out and lost it. So, I'll make it shorter and try to condense it.

First of all, words can't really express how great it was to see all of my old friends. It would've been complete if John could've made it, but, I cannot be bitter about his understandable absence.

The highlight, of course, was seeing Larry ay ay ay and the "Beautiful Naviguesser". To have been connected, solely because we own the same silly car... I just can't love this couple any more than I already do. They have blessed me and continue to be a blessing beyond measure.

There were only a few of us, but, I believe those who were actually SUPPOSED to be there, were there.

Great to see Benebob and Hocrest.

Brad, although it's been (many) years, I'm still sorry 'bout the tranny - I swear it was working when it was removed. :) Maybe I'll show you the video sometime of how surprised my son was to receive the PS2. :)

Sean, I don't really know you, but perhaps we'll get to know each other as years progress.

Meeting Harry's friend Bill, and his wife June, was a treasure.

Rufus, it was super to share a few shots of Blanton's with you -- hate that you had to sleep in your truck.

Meeting Chris (aka Jester01 - founder of the Yahoo SVX Club) was an unexpected treat. And there were those with whom I share a special bond -- Harry, Ron, Mike, Olu -- you guys mean the world to me.

So... before I get logged out again, I'll encourage those of you who can to attend next year -- it's the people and the memories that make it special. I just hope my car (and me) are in good enough shape to make it.

Yeah sorry about that, I am a bit quiet an reserved with a touch of social anxiety so it takes me a while to get to know people. (Hopefully it didn't come off as unfriendly.)

The Pace Car looked great by the way. I am liking it more and more each time I see it.

Guess it is time to start preparations for Reading XIX?

We always knew what made a successful meet and should have remembered that it started with people and was always about the people who at one point were total strangers and became steadfast friends that stood the rest of time.

We have the place and all that’s left to begin is a date. Late April or early May. Anyone who wants to get on board and get this ball rolling, just let me know.

I reluctantly gave up control over the past couple of years, based upon what others thought the meet should be.

Look at the previous Reading stats. What was so great about Reading 4 and 5, except the number of people who were enthusiastic about seeing each other, rather than be entertained.

Look what we accomplished with only 5 weeks with Reading 18? Randy summed it up eloquently as usual.
