wierd hesitation problem
my 92 svx 42k when cold runs fine till first stop, then won't go over 10mph till hot. i also have an intermitent hesitation when hot, evey now and then i press on the gas and it won't accel. all this started when i had the alternator rebuilt because of it not charging. any help would be appreciated
IT JUST STOPPED DOING IT BY ITSELF. THANKS FOR THE REPLIES. |
First thing is, is the check engine light on, and if so follow this link to help everyone Link for checking for codes
Also are there any other ligths that stay on? |

wow, my car use to do that too ...
being in Az it didnt do it all that badly in the warmer months but when it got cooler out in the am, it was an almost everyday event. Does yours: start fine in the am, run well until you get to say the first stoplite or stop sign roughly 1/4 mile away or so. At the lite it feels like its running on 3 cylinders, rough as hell. No check engine lite mind you. Lite turns green and I go, maybe even floor it and try to get something to change and then usually a mile or so down the rd and for rest of the day the car runs fine. Is that what yours is doing ? |
If its not the alternator check the vacum hose from the brake boaster se if its cracked and leaking air. I would also put in a heavy does of injector cleaner next time you fuel up. For some reason if the injectors are playing up its worst when the car is cold. You may have to give them a few cleans before they come good.

Did you replace the alternator yourself? What could have inadvertently been upset damaged, left disconnected, whatever, during the alternator job? The cam and crank angle sensors, knock sensors, associated wiring and connectors are within the suspect area. A matter of coincidence can of course not be ruled out, which then leaves many possible causes. :( |
