6spd swap started

I started my six speed swap finally yesterday.. Got the rear end done and installed minus axle nuts. Here are some pics

Empty rear end

R180 rear with driveshaft flange removed and R160 with Flange still on

Removing the R160 Flange to put on the R180 rear diff.

The mounting studs that go out the back of the rear diff were too short on the R180 so I swapped the studs with the ones from the stock R160. The R160 mounting bolts are on the left and the stock STi ones are on the right

What's with the sensor in the R180?

sicksubie 01-08-2008 06:36 PM

I believe it has to do with the DCCD?

svxpert 01-08-2008 06:54 PM

<<What's with the sensor in the R180?>>

i think its a thermo sensor to make sure it doesnt overheat.

BTW, whats the size of the nut on the rear flange? 28MM? i need to get a socket to remove it.

I used a 1 and 1/16 fitting on my air gun......

yes thats just a temperature sensor... You can swap over the plain drain plug if you please. Bobby make sure you get those axles clipped into the rear diff as well as the front

Simply push till they pop right?

TomsSVX 01-09-2008 08:08 AM

might need to give em a whack... I use a dead blow but be careful you do not split the axles boot

A question do the current lot of 6 speeds with the R180 diffs have a 1:1 or 1.1 : 1 transfer ratio. It seems I am being told that they all had 1.1 :1 which I don't beleive to be true? I need to know to check the read diff ratio.
