A/C compressor not engaging.

Is there anything other than a blown fuse or relay that would prevent the A/C from turning on?...it appears my compressor is not engaging. Fans and other climate controls work fine but the ac does not. Will low pressure in refrigerator lines cause this? I don't wanna spend 30 bucks on a recharge if I don't have to..

It will...
It is a safety feature to keep the compressor from sucking moist air and other contaminants in the system if a leak develops and the refrigerant is lost.

Low pressure will cause compressor not to engage due to low pressure cutout switch. You will want to recharge with a dye for finding leaks, if this is the case...

I just had a similar problem with my '96 SVX. The cause was a rear seal on the compressor had failed, and the refrgerant had leaked out. Couldn't even turn the compressor by hand with the engine shut off.

forgive this dumb question but would the Climate control diagnostic module tell you what the problem is?

Maybe, it depends what the problem is??? It won't give an error for high or low pressure in the system.

Re: A/C compressor not engaging.

When I tried pulling codes on my '97 when I knew the refrigerant pressure was too low because it had leaked out, it didn't show any codes. 2 O-rings and a recharge and it was all fixed.
