Resistor in engine bay

Is it normal for the resistor for the transmission (the JECS one) located on the left apron next to the battery to be warm to the touch? This feels incorrect and I may attempt to source a replacement.

Is it while idling? Or, after driving a while?

If you are not in such a hurry, I will check it out as I have something to do at SVX on the 11th.

I do have some concerns about the way the wires run. As you know that resistor can get very hot, and the way the plastic covered wires are between the resistor and the body, could melt the insulation to cause a short.

It may be better to run the wires around the outside of the resistor. It won't look as neat as the way you have done it but it woun't melt the insulation either. Just a suggestion.

I would not worry abut it Mike, it's supposed to get hot, its dissipating power by dropping the 12V to 5V.

Thank you both. I pulled the resistor, inspected it and it looks good so I’m leaving it. If it had physical damage I’d be more inclined to replace it.

I drove SVX about 600km yesterday. When I got home, the resistor temperature was about 70C (160F).
