The Outback transmission is tough, no problems. It's a 4:44. SVX is 3:545. It will have better acceleration but rev a bit higher on the highway. If it was done right, the rear differential gears were swapped and the limited slip is still functional. The axles should all be SVX still.
I had a '97 Outback transmission put in one of my '92s and it worked great.
