My new brass radiator/header tank
 After all the overheating probs i've had-blocked rad,leaking water pump,dodgy thermostat/cap,the final straw was when the plastic header tank cracked just below the cap.My local radiator specialists were stuck to find a suitable replacement,so they made one from scratch out of brass.Pretty good job considering the work involved,bracketsfor fans etc,for us in the UK the firm is called Serck Intertruck.pic below.

Notice the slight angle of the overflow pipe to assure the cap is aligned when closed.
This looks like outstanding "attention to detail" work!!

Just back in from work! Price for the new header tank in brass was £52,my contact there said it was a lot of work,what with parts/labour they probably made a loss.That price included pick up/delivery to my uncles garage.I sent a few extra pounds with the delivery driver to cover (drinking expenses) My contact commented on the poor quality plastics that Subaru use for radiators (they are kept quite busy with imprezas/leggys) the bottom of the radiator is still plastic,but seems ok,must be the heat that destroys them.With 150,000 miles on lets hope nothing else goes wrong (still on original gearbox with no history of faults)

You should check to see if he would be interested in making up for his losses and getting a batch of them made for us.
Does anyone know if brass and aluminium react strangely when mated against each other?
