Inexpensive Intake Manifold Clip Replacement

I just found an inexpensive replacement for the intake manifold cover clip.
The factory clip (PN 24236AA001) retails for #3.92 ea. at the dealer and $2.98 ea. at Subarupart.com.

The clip I found is a 5/16" Nylon Rivet made by Dorman. I found it at Auto Zone on the rack with aftermarket body rivets and hardware. These rivets come in a pack of 2 for $1.49. The head of the rivet is a bit smaller than the stock one, but the shank is 5/16" diameter (7.93 mm) vs. the 8mm dia shank of the original. The fit is perfect and the clips hold the cover securely. I'll take a pic of the rivet installed later, but below is a pic of the rivet package.

Thumbs up

Good find!

I paid $4.10 after tax for 1 clip which was broken when I bought my car. This thread details my saga: Engine Cover Plastic Clip

Pic of the clip installed

As I mentioned before, the head of the clip is a bit smaller than the stock Subaru one, but since the shank is the same size, the clip works as well as the original. Because it's a bit smaller, you can see a small spot on the cover where the original clip head wore a bit of paint off of the cover. I'll touch it up with some silver paint and it should be as good as new.

Here's a pic:
