As Joe commented I modified my UK "blanking plate" :
1. Remove the existing blank
2. With fine sandpaper rub off the paint then polish the red plastic with brasso.
3. Trip to the breakers yard get a handful of LED lamp units, I used two from Renault Clio's
4. Fit the LEDS in the blank
5. Run a wire from the lid around the hinge to the rear light cluster.

The UK car has high brightness Fog lights in the boot lid, this I think will use up the wire that feeds the US center brake light, I suspect that is why we dont have the extra light, not enough wires in the lid harness.

This is not a difficult job, it takes about 30mins to prepare the blank with sandpaper. The wiring is about the same. Cost £5.

Somewhere I did post pictures of all this, I think it is on the Yahoo UK site.

Regards

Arthur

Has anyone got a UK wiring diagram ?
I am still playing with the OBD2 (www.obd2.com for info) and I am now sure the 16pin connector is not fitted to my 97 UK car - damn. I am sure the data is available on the engine ECU and I want to wire directly into it.

I am working on a "How To" for rebuilding the stock CHMSL that will provide a modern level of intensity, not a 1991 level.

Granted that won't work for those who don't have one, but it would allow you to buy a burnt out unit which might make it easier to get ahold of one.
