any help???
Hi, everyone I posted "timing idler broke off" but I still havent got any responses or help, if anyone can help me it would be Greatly appreciated. I really need to know what to do with it because finding a low mileage engine is not easy or cheap, I only have 51 thousand miles on my car. I dont want to part it out or donate it. Thanks

Bummer Man,
Could you post some pics so we can see exactly where it broke off, also could you tell what material it's made of I believe it's alum but just to be sure. Mine broke a year ago and I fixed mine, but it was just the adjustment mechanism.

Yea, theres a pic of it, I posted it on 11/9 the same day I posted the thread "timing idler broke off" the thread of the pic is "pics of the hurt eg33". The material is aluminum, because its the block. You might be able to see a hairline crack and distortion of the idler bolt hole.

Here's the pic again:
http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/atta...&postid=156950 You should be able to have a shop drill out that hole and put in a threaded insert so you can put the engine back to gether. Might have to pull the engine to do this however... Do you have a picture with more of the engine showing, so we can see exactly where this is?

Yea , I was thinking of buying one of those craftsman bolt out bits. But the what about the upper layer of the bolt hole? its missing pieces, and the indentation on the top of the whole block it self. Is it reusable? Does any one have a pic of the original shape of where that idler goes? heres another pic of the engine.

Hmm.. I think you might have to get someone to weld or braze up the rest of that area, then grind it down flat and drill/tap the hole.
I'm not sure if epoxy would hold up for this repair or not, and I'd hate to find out that it didn't as you'll be right back where you are now.

Thanks alot for your help, and also everyone else's. I think im gonna save up for a low mileage engine, or find a good machine shop who can do the job. But I still have to take the engine out . I hope my svx can wait, because its going to take a while .Thanks again.
